Detailed Health Benefits of Biotin
The benefits of biotin (Vitamin H or Vitamin B7) are that it will assist your body in converting fatty acids and glucose into energy for your body. In addition to that it also metabolizes amino acids and carbohydrates as well as assisting in the production of various enzymes your body uses. This B vitamin has been studied as a possible treatment for a few ailments, the most studied being hair loss, but there has been no conclusive links made yet. Other possibilities are the use of biotin in strengthening nails, curing cradle cap (a problem infants suffer from shortly after birth), and diabetes. Again this research is ongoing but there has been some pretty definite evidence that suggests this is a proper treatment for these conditions.
There are many foods that include biotin, too many to list here, but it does break down over time. This means that eating fresh foods is the best way to ensure that you’re getting a healthy amount. It also seems to break down when being cooked so you should be sure to include some raw vegetables and fruits in your diet as well. It’s always a good idea to remember that frozen, cooked, or just not fresh vegetables and fruits will be lacking a large part of their nutritional content they had when picked.
Biotin deficiency is generally rare but you can be at more risk if you have biotinidase deficiency (genetic disorder), take seizure medications or antibiotics, eat lots of egg whites, undergo kidney dialysis, or IV feedings. Pregnant women and smokers have also been linked to biotin deficiency. If you fit into any of these categories you should consider eating more raw foods containing biotin like carrots, salmon, bananas, etc).
